Watch: Pentagon formally releases three videos of UFOs taken by the US Navy

Be it the surge of conspiracy theories relating to extraterrestrial life to an induction of memes about Area 51, the concept of aliens has always intrigued the human mind. What was once considered to be viral footage of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) leaked years ago, has now been formally released by the Pentagon.

On Monday, the body released three grainy, declassified footage, one from November 2004 and the other two in January 2015, taken by the US Navy. In a press release, the Department of Defense said, “The US Navy previously acknowledged that these videos circulating in the public domain were indeed Navy videos.”

“After a thorough review, the department has determined that the authorized release of these unclassified videos does not reveal any sensitive capabilities or systems, and does not impinge on any subsequent investigations of military air space incursions by unidentified aerial phenomena,” the statement further read.

According to the Department of Defense, the three videos were released to clear up any misconceptions the public holds regarding its authenticity. With a few who believe that these three videos do include UFOs from an extraterrestrial realm, Pentagon’s formal release adds to its legitimacy.

“The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as ‘unidentified’,” the statement concluded.
